Character Counts

At Hammond Character Counts!

Help us in developing ethical decision-making skills.

We are spreading the news about ways we can become more responsible citizens through our school-wide focus on character education. Character Education focuses on teaching students six character traits that support personal development.

Character Traits

Trustworthiness

Are others able to rely upon you to do what you say you will do, and do you have the courage to do what's best in challenging situations?

Respect

Do you show an acceptance of differences in thought, culture, and beliefs? Are you peaceful and treat others the way you would like them to treat you?

Responsibility

Following through on what someone has asked of you, being prepared for class, being able to do what you should even when no one is looking, and being accountable for your choices.

Fairness

Doing what you know is the right thing to do, listening to others even when you do not agree, sharing, and following the rules are all examples of ways to be a fair person.

Caring

Showing someone love, saying thank you, forgiving others when they have made a mistake, and helping those who are not as fortunate as you are ways you can show you care.

Citizenship

Show your citizenship by sharing, helping others in your community, picking up trash and making sure your trash is placed in a trash can, volunteering some of your time to help others, and supporting someone in need.
